CWB Community put the heat on Police to control speeding drivers:

Dear All:

Following the note yesterday morning and some of your emails to the Police
I'd like to give you an update and also to let you know that the message
has been received loud and clear ... so unless you have a specific traffic
incident to report officially (i.e. number plates, time, dates etc) there
is no need any more to write to the Regional Traffic office on this matter.

The SSW Village Affairs Committee chairman Donny Lam has offered to be the
liaison with Police on this issue.

As a result of your concern, Donny has already informed the local District
Police Community Relations Officer (who will no doubt raise the matter with
the Regional Traffic office) as well as our local District Council rep
Peter Lau, who also happens to be the chair of the Sai Kung District
Council Fight Crime Committee. The Regional Traffic office has already been
in touch with Donny as well following your emails.

On the Police side, the accident in question is being investigated by their
special investigation team, which handles serious incidents and reflects
the concern they have about this accident. The Snr Superintendent in charge
of the regional traffic team has also promised to raise the matter with the
Sai Kung traffic and transport committee.

So, the message is clear at several levels and channels that residents are
very concerned about the accident and want some action to be taken to help
stop it happening in the future.

If there is anything specific you want Donny to raise with the Police, pls
send him an email on: donny603@gmail.com

In the meantime, I have also had a chat with and e-mailed the Snr
Superintedent - who has been very helpful and understanding - to let him
know that Donny will be the point of contact and that the residents are
concerned about the safety of the road - especially late at night when
these morons are zooming around with careless abandon.

And if anyone noticed last night, there was in fact a speed camera on CW
Bay Road on the straight stretch of road near SSWan turnoff, which is one
of the blackspot sections of the road where the racers really crank up the
speed.

Hope this approach is OK with all.

bestest,

brett

Written by Martin Robertson:

All,

we have a serious problem with late night / early morning 'boy racers' on ClearwaterBay Road.

The most recent case involved Ginny and Andy Malbon (Ginny is one of the photographers who was so supportive of the Stella Standing Tall campaign). They live at Seacrest Villas in Po Toi O. Last weekend, a boy racer smashed into their car at high speed, whilst driving on the wrong side of CWB Road. Andy has now been discharged from hospital, still in a lot of pain, but Ginny is in intensive care, undergoing operations on her legs, and it seems she will be incapacitated for some months.

Most people i know in CWB know someone who has had (or who was close to having) an accident due to these crazy drivers. This happens so frequently, I believe we need to pressure the police to add speedbumps to the road and / or have traffic police on patrol every Friday / Saturday / Sunday night.

Dawn and I discussed with Brett, who has raised the issue with Donny Lam. It will be discussed during the village meeting this weekend.
